MAGNA NEWS
Sept/Oct 2009 - Giant Schnauzer Club of America National
Specialty - Roseville, California. - Joe Parker, the co-owner
of Vader, CH Magna’s Unusual Suspect and I brought a dog each- Vader,
a Champion male of 22 months of age, and Jill, a 15 month old class
bitch flew . with us from Baltimore, MD to San Francisco, CA
uneventfully both directions. The trip was a huge success. Jill was
winners bitch at the Regional two days before the National. I felt
like it was my first win ever. I showed Vader at the Regional but I
can tell you that as I age I find it harder to move with such a big
dog and frankly because of his size he got the better of me that day.
The next day we had arranged for a handler (Andy Linton) that moves
like the wind and is a superb handler. Andy and Vader were lovely
together and I was thrilled with First Award of Merit from esteemed
breeder judge Barbara Bender. Jill once again won Winners Bitch as
well as Best of Winners AND an Award of Merit! Wow, what a day! On
Saturday and Sunday there were Supported Entry shows. Saturday Jill
was Winners bitch again finishing her championship in three days with
three five point majors and Vader was Best of Opposite Sex. Pretty
darn good for two puppies! To top it all off, Jill went Best of Breed
as a move up and New Champion on Sunday beating even Best In Show
winning dogs. Needless to say it was a great trip and I could not have
done it without all of Joe’s help as well as the support of Jamie,
Debbie, Bob, Marne, Mike, Cornelia and Bill- Magna VIP’s. Thank you
all!
April
9 -13 2009 - Giant Schnauzer Club of America's National Specialty-
Harrisburg, PA - Gerda won best puppy in sweepstakes, Jill won Winners
bitch the first day but Vader was
the big winner. He finished his championship from the 12 - 18 month
puppy dog class the first day, won the breed and a group 4 the next
day beating Best In Show winning champions and took the only judges
Award of Merit at the Specialty. The last day he was best of opposite
sex.
September 22 - 28 2008- Giant Schnauzer Club of America's
National Specialty and two Mid-Western Regional Specialties- St.
Louis, MO- We Magna owners h ad
a GREAT time at the two regional and the National Specialty in St.
Louis where we once again gathered together. We worked and played hard
and it was all worth it. Joe and Vader traveled with Daphne and myself
as well as our little six month old "Sarah Divine" who went with us on
the trip because Mary (Zoya's mom) took her home from the National to
Texas to show her. Zoya and Mia-Mi showed in performance events and
both won a leg towards their titles and Mia-Mi now has her Rally
Excellent title completed. Congratulations to Debbie and Mary on those
wins. Vader won Best Puppy at the first Regional and Best of Opposite
Sex Puppy at the National and won his class every day. He is an
awesome boy and in a year or two he will be a very strong competitor.
Sarah won her class half the time but we actually leash broke her on
the show site so that was pretty good! Daphne got an award of merit
the first day and was best of opposite sex the last day. She and
Mia-Mi both made the cut at the National. Tom and Lisa and their new
baby flew out to join us for the National and he showed Mia-Mi and did
a great job making the first cut at the National! Fitting for her last
conformation show since he taught her to love shows though she was
shown by a hander for her title. Elaine flew out and Daphne and she
are now BF's. We met others we have welcomed into the Magna fold as
well. Daphne and Sarah Divine have fan clubs now too. They are cute
girls and they loved the attention! So we definitely had a good trip
and had tons of fun. We will share our win pictures when they arrive.
Thank you to the Magna owners who attended for your help! We could not
have such success and fun if there was not such generosity of time and
effort.
August 2008- GSCA Eastern Regional Specialty- Magna had a great
trip to Massachusetts for the specialty. With Vader winning a 5 point
major the first day and Best in Sweepstakes the second we were happy.
Then we finished two championships on Brutus and Lilly who both got 5
point majors also. I think we also had three reserves in the weekend
as well. Mia-Mi won best of breed one day as well and so we had a
great weekend with friends and beautiful dogs. It was so much fun to
see three champions from the same litter in the ring together for the
first and last time for these three since they will not be shown much
after this time. We also got some fantastic new pictures this week so
be sure to check out the websites of
Cammy,
Brutus,
Vader, and the three sisters;
Lilly,
Daphne,
Mia-Mi.
Magna Event -
At Magna's recent annual party we invited researchers from the
National Institute of Health to come collect samples for their
research project on Squamous Cell Carcinoma. This is the cancer that
causes toe cancer in Giants. It is unique to just a few breeds
and they need us to participate. They also shared their samples with
the University of Missouri's researchers who are doing a seizure
study. These are very important studies and NIH left with 40 samples.
They said they would have been thrilled to leave with 10 but 40 was
more than what they had collected in total elsewhere so they were
really happy. We hope that the Giant Schnauzer Club of America will
have them come to the National Specialty and encourage people to bring
their dogs by their booth for samples to be taken. They need healthy
dogs, affected dogs, and dogs from every pedigree possible so if you
own a giant, please consider having your dogs DNA sample taken. It is
just a simple blood draw and all information is completely
confidential. You can contact Dana Mosher at NIH and be sure to tell
her you want the sample shared and she will give a portion to the
Seizure study as well. The packet she will send you contains all your
vet would need to collect the sample and also the materials to ship
the sample back. It is really easy and you can just take it when you
have the next appointment with the vet. Dana can be reached at;
301-451-9390 or email her
mosherd@mail.nih.gov.
Casey is in the Magna News again. I found some old video of when I was
training him for his owner prior to leaving Magna. Remember, he is the
one year old I sold as a well started service dog some time ago.
Visit Casey's page. This is
really fun video so I hope you enjoy it. If your next puppy or current
dog would benefit from training, we welcome your inquiries.. I have
lots of owner and dog page updates to do and this is no exception but
this video and others I have coming should be really fun for you.
