Legend
is best described as "majestic." He is big, powerful and
statuesque yet has breathtaking movement, a beautiful front,
great bone and
substance, outstanding coat and a beautiful head. He really is a lovely
example of the breed. We are so excited
about this boy! Legend at just over one year of age is undefeated with 12 points (3 majors) from 4 shows. Two majors
coming from beating specials and one from the eastern regional specialty 4/06.
He also won the Bred-By Exhibitor Group at 7.5 months at the show in
Philadelphia. Watch
for him in the future. We expect him to live up to his name!
UPDATE: Ledgie was Reserve Winners Dog at the GSCA National and
Mid-Western Regional Specialties Sept. 29 and 30, 2006.
Legend is now a champion and resides locally in a wonderful pet home still part of our
breeding program. Watch for his contributions in the future. |

Hi Pat:
Legend or "Leo" as we call him for short is such a doll.
I cannot believe that he has only been a part of our lives for two weeks,
since it seems like forever in a good way.
He has adapted really easily to life with us. Right now,
he is here by my desk at work laying on his back with all four paw in the
air, his nose pressed against the leg of the desk and snoring. It is really
funny. He also is the world's biggest bed hog and has lots of doggy
dreams. Who knew? We had to convince him that the silk couch was off
limits, but other than that, he has been perfect in the house and everywhere
we have gone. He remembers all the people we introduce him to, and plays
with all sizes and genders of dogs. On the other hand, he knows what
exactly in his home environment is routine and is sure to alert me if
someone strange pulls up outside to the house / office / barn or there are
weird noises, which we like.
He is really good with the horses, although is cautious
enough to not get under them and I correct him if he gets too close to their
hind legs. We were pleased to know that Legend loves children and has been
very gentle with the ones we have met in the pet store or out and about? He
is the most well socialized dog ever meeting all the dogs and people at
friends and at the horse show with impressive charm and grace. Everyone
loves him and come up to me all the time. A friend brought over her ten
year old boy and Legend was snuggling in his lap, fetching the toy, etc. He
is really good with the horses too, although is cautious enough to not get
under them and I correct him if he gets too close to their hind legs.
His leash manners are also really good given his show
career and the little tune-up we did, and he has been learning new little
commands. He will chase cats if they are outside and run, but is good in
close quarters with them and is really good with the horses. All of our
horses are neutral and well socialized to dogs. In turn, Legend is neutral
with them too, no barking, but also cautious enough to give them there space
and not be under their legs. However, he will curl up in the corner of
their stall or come in and out while I am tacking, mucking, etc.
The only "issue" is that he is the dog equivalent of
Houdini to escape or a barking fiend if he cannot come with us when we need
to leave him in the crate or a dog stall to ride, use the tractor, etc. He
has gotten so attached to being with someone, that he would rather go
wherever with us and sleep at our feet then be left behind. Hopefully with
time, he will get more confident to know that if we leave him behind, and we
are outside, it is okay and that he does not need to bark to remind us to
come get him! He listens well to Michael, trusting him too, and they play
and cuddle together, but keeps a close eye on where I am to follow and make
sure that I don't "escape" to somewhere fun without him. He really is such a
sweet, alert dog. I could not imagine having any other breed, from any
other breeder, and cannot believe how bonded Legend is already. My husband
and I are very, very happy and so is Legend.
Mike really wants to meet you and the rest of the dogs.
Legend will probably need a grooming then I imagine, although he has already
had two baths and was super easy for those and lets me clean goop out of his
eyes, pads, whiskers, etc. Mike also took some cute pictures where Legend
and I were napping together with our two heads side by side.
You asked what I thought about the Magna Raised Dog
program and in my opinion, people should absolutely look towards your older
pups and adults. Personally, I think Legend bonded faster then a puppy
would. He was already following me around after only a week. Maybe not all
Giants are that way, but he is a lover, very confident to the outside world,
but so intent on pleasing in his "home" world.
Big hug to you,
Marne
