September 2007
Magna at the Giant Schnauzer Club Of America's
National and Regional Specialties
First
of all, my beloved
Rhea was best veteran in sweepstakes and that is very special to
me. She really has become a couch potato and didn't love the ring
nearly as much as I thought she would (since she loved it so much in
the past) but she was a good girl and put up with it. None the less, I
was proud of her. I love this dog!
Her children and grand
children did well also. I think Purple, her son is probably the most
accomplished natural earred dog ever to enter the breed ring with
first awards of merit at Westminster and now both this National and
the Regional as well as other regional specialty and sweepstake wins.
Daphne won the puppy match
and was Winners bitch at the Regional and Lilly was Best Puppy at the
regional. Debbie and Mia-Mi were in the rally competition. It was
their first time ever in a performance event and to their surprise
they got two legs towards Mia-Mi's first rally title! Congrats!!!!
Mary from Texas (owner of
Zoya) traveled all the way to PA and challenged me to a showdown at
next years national in the obedience ring so I told her to grease her
leash and let the games begin! You will not want to miss this national
in September in St. Louis because there will be quite a showing of
Magna in obedience. At our Magna Family dinner Saturday night after
the National we ALL agreed to ready our dogs and join in the
competition and since that time others have said they too are
considering accepting the challenge. That will be really fun competing
against our friends and encouraging one another. The end result will
be that we all have better trained dogs we have spent time with and
enjoyed even more than normal and will continue to do so with better
behaved, more tuned in dogs than we started with. I seldom do any
"formal" training of my own dogs anymore so this is a welcomed
challenge for me.
For several years I have
thought it would be really fun to have a competition with the other
breeders in the obedience ring. Some will have more experience than
others but I would gladly provide trophies to promote the excellence
of our beloved Giant Schnauzers in any way I can and it would be fun
to see the breeders of our dogs take a greater interest in training
their dogs and being competent to help their puppy owners when they
need the help as well. If any breeders want to join me in this
challenge I will happily make categories to promote success at all
levels of training.
I remember years ago as a new
real estate agent there were trophies for the top producers but I was
a newbie and there was never a trophy for the person who tried
hardest, or who made the most progress... it seems many things are
like this by design and I find it unpleasant. This competition on the
other hand is about bringing people out who have been on the sidelines
and recognizing our owners and also breeders if they accept the
challenge for their efforts. I am also open to suggestions if you have
any. Ready to make the commitment? I will be your accountability
partner and coach if you are. Just let me know you are signing on! I
will provide the awards. |
